We can’t quite believe we’re over halfway through February already…where has the time gone?! There is lots going on for us at MEM this first quarter, with lots of potential to impact many lives across the Middle East and beyond. Each of our international teams have a number of needs on our hearts at this present time, and it is easy to become busy and distracted. We’d love it if you could join us in lifting each of our teams up in prayer to the One who listens, the One who blesses, and the One who ultimately establishes the work of our hands.

Thanks to your generosity and faithful prayer, we raised over £5,600 to bring hope and home to women in the Gulf!

Kingdom Platform, a social media outreach initiative for Arabic-speaking youth, has recently been launched on YouTube. Plans for this project have been in the running for the past two years, but its inauguration was held off due to inadequate funding. In September, we were able to launch the YouTube channel aspect of this initiative, with the hope of expanding onto Instagram, TikTok and Facebook in the near future.

Victims of human trafficking are often left with feelings of disgrace, humiliation and worthlessness. Even those who do escape and return home are treated with contempt by their community. Isaiah 43 speaks of the Lord turning shame into a picture of honour, beauty and value by offering a second chance.

To be fully seen, known, and loved. To be liberated from our mistakes and burdens. To know our calling, and to have hope. These are things that, truthfully, we all desire. For a woman living in the Arabian Gulf, this could not be more true.

Basma is a faithful New Church believer that has been known to us for many years, who has devotedly served our Gulf team in numerous ways over this time. This precious woman of God has so much to give the Kingdom, and yet to say that she has had a turbulent time would be an understatement. Sadly, her situation has recently become perilous in new ways, compelling us to cover her in prayer this week.

Last month, we reported on an exciting up-and-coming work in the Gulf being triumphed by three believing women from a Muslim background, aiming to reach women in the Arabian Peninsula (AP) online with the love of Christ. These are women who are deeply steeped in the assumptions, pressures and expectations of the Islamic world around them. As plans for this new digital platform get underway, we would love for it to be on our hearts in prayer this week.

As many parts of the world, including nations across the Middle East engage in a holiday season, join us as we pray around the subject of rest and refreshment, and for encounters with God through media.

Often Muslims, especially women, are taught to accept everything without questioning. Working alongside local believers, read here about MEM’s vision to develop a social media presence that cultivates a questioning culture among Muslim women in the Gulf.

Many of you responsed financially and in prayer to our urgent appeal back in March for our Blossoms workshops in North Africa. These workshops, helping women explore emotional expression and find psychological healing from trauma, had to come to a stop earlier this year due to a lack of funding. Read about what your generosity, and God’s faithfulness, has since enabled.

We’ve shared much over the past year about our vision to work with individuals and communities more widely across the MENA region, with the goal of establishing and equipping new media teams made up of local believers who are able to reach their own people groups. Despite Covid-19 limitations, the holy Islamic city of Mecca is expecting 60,000 pilgrims from across the nation of Saudi Arabia this weekend, 17th-22nd July, to participate in the annual six-day Hajj pilgrimage. Join us in praying for this significant event, the individuals attending, and for Muslims throughout the world.
